Although I haven't photographed Alaskan polar bears as my grandfather did in the 1920's, I have followed in his footsteps with my lifelong passion for photography. After going to photography school in California, I did textbook illustrations. Then I worked as a teacher for 25 years simultaneously developed a diverse portfolio of nature photography and candids of children.
My niche evolved into a fascination with ocean abstracts and macro-floral photography. What I particularly enjoy is experiencing the beauty and surprises of nature up close and then transforming my impressions into abstract compositions. My family, the Pacific Northwest, exploring beaches, traveling, and hiking have inspired the rest of my work. My most recent endeavor has been working on children's books with photo illustrations.
My photo entitled "Celebrate Diversity" won honorable mention in the 2021 ND Awards (Neutral Density international photography contest) in the mobile photography category. A series of five ocean abstracts won second place in the "Nature: seascapes" category of the 2015 ND Awards. My photographs have been featured in The Nature Conservancy contest and subsequent ads. A macro floral photo won The Oregonian's Home and Garden contest. Coastal and Italy photos were winners in The Oregonian Travel Photo contests.
